Aims

Building on the unique blend of characteristics of international not-for-profit organizations, the Association:

  • is the pre-eminent global forum where information is exchanged on research and practices at the cutting edge of HR management in the international environment, and where HR practitioners develop their professional expertise to enhance their effectiveness.
  • provides ideas and solutions to support the strategic development of international organizations by bringing together specialists from those organizations with private sector practitioners and distinguished academics.
Membership
Established in 2000, the Association's membership includes some 55 international organizations (the UN family, international financial institutions and a wide range of NGOs), together with a growing number of HRM specialists as individual members. AHRMIO would like to attract a far greater share of the estimated 3000 worldwide NGOs.
Focus

AHRMIO's current focus is on several key themes of common interest to its membership, and high on the global HR agenda, including:

Strategic management and managing performance – creating a culture where performance matters, managerial competence is recognized and continuous learning promotes and supports career management.

Expatriation and mobility – facing up to the needs of an expatriate, globally mobile workforce.

Staffing and careers for the future – understanding the importance of HR planning backed up by efficient and effective recruitment and selection techniques.

Cross-cultural management – developing strategies to turn the difficulties and complexities of managing HR in a cross-cultural environment into a positive force.

Crisis management – formulating contingency and disaster recovery plans in not-for-profit organizations.
