University of Geneva

Founded in 1559, the University has a long-standing international tradition and was recently ranked by Newsweek’s "100 Most Global Universities" as the number 1 generalist University in Continental Europe. It has developed the International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) to address a major unfilled need: to train professionals to pursue careers in international governmental and nongovernmental organizations and companies that work with these institutions.

In 2004, an agreement was forged between AHRMIO and the University of Geneva; this is a significant development in the Association’s history. In keeping with its new policy of working more closely with the international organizations, the University of Geneva has developed, in collaboration with AHRMIO, a new MBA programme for International Organizations (IOMBA). As part of the ten-month programme, the students who come from across the world work one day a week in an organization and AHRMIO has been instrumental in arranging for this with the Geneva-based organizations.

Conjoined with the programme, a nine-month Certificate programme of six modules has been designed for the staff of international organizations, who could take part on a day-release basis. This programme further strengthen the links between the University and the international organizations based in and near Geneva.

As part of this collaboration, AHRMIO has access to classroom and auditorium space year-round, as well as all the ancillary facilities that come with a top-flight business school, and its own office on the IOMBA premises.

AHRMIO is dedicated to collaborating with leading private sector firms in order that its members may be introduced to the latest developments in HR management and related fields. AHRMIO in return provides its commercial partners with a gateway to a large network of not-for-profit organizations, allowing them to showcase their products and services at conferences and seminars. Concept
The concept of sponsorship has evolved over the years and the current sponsors, as well as the AHRMIO Advisory Council and Board, feel that the strict “return for investment” approach is no longer appropriate; rather, they envisage sponsorship more in terms of ongoing partnership, i.e. as a collaborative, more philanthropic arrangement for the benefit of both the sponsor and the Association. Hence, we no longer say that it costs a minimum annual amount to become a sponsor, but rather that we would expect this amount in some form to be a minimum contribution in cash or in kind, such as, for example, Monster’s contribution for the Association’s website.
Benefits

Sponsors receive the following benefits:

They have access to the key HR decision makers in AHRMIO’s member organizations (currently 55). This gives them a special understanding of the unique challenges facing the leading organizations of the international not-for-profit world.

  • They have access to the Members Only sector of the Association’s website.
  • They receive the Association’s mailing list.
  • They have the opportunity to distribute promotional material to AHRMIO member organizations.
  • They participate as non-voting members of the Advisory Council.
  • They attend and put up booths or stands at the Annual Conference.
  • They have their logo on the Association’s website and in other publications.
  • They may underwrite and organize, at their own expense, seminars, training events or other activities in their area of expertise for the membership.
What sponsorship is not:

Sponsorship does not grant exclusivity in respect of the area of work or speciality of the sponsor.

Sponsorship does not provide an opportunity for “hard selling” to AHRMIO members. In our experience a “hard sell” approach is unlikely to be either productive or seen favourably by the members
